Spray Patterns

There are three basic types of spray patterns.  The advantages and disadvantages of each are listed below.

Ballistic Stream

  • Reduces likelihood of contaminating other subjects in the immediate area
  • Requires accurate aim to hit target
  • Potential for inhalation by sprayer reduced
  • Only affects area struck by stream
  • Less likely to be affected by wind or to be blown back in your face
  • Potential for irritation of target's respiratory system reduced
  • Longer range
  • Takes longer to create irritation than a mist spray

Full Cone Mist Spray

  • Requires less accuracy
  • Potential for increased exposure to surrounding area, to innocent bystanders and to the sprayer
  • Covers a wider area, so more likely to hit target
  • Strong winds can diminish effectiveness
  • Potential for inhalation increased, enhancing effectiveness on target
  • Potential for inhalation increased, enhancing effectiveness on innocent bystanders and sprayer

Magnum Fogger

  • Distributes large amounts of spray into vast area, helpful for riot conditions, crowd control, raids, and correctional use
  • Potential for increased exposure to surrounding area, to innocent bystanders, and to the sprayer
