Treatment/Decontamination

Post-exposure Treatment if Accidentally Discharged
- Tell the person sprayed to stay still, breath
normally, and relax as much as possible. Move the subject into an uncontaminated area as
soon as possible and face the individual into the wind. A fan can also be used to
ventilate the face.
- Flush the subject's face and eyes with cool water. A garden hose or a kitchen type
sprayer works well. Do not allow the subject to rub his/her eyes.
- Do not use lotion, salves or creams on the affected areas, as these trap the active
ingredient against the skin.
- A non-oil based soap or detergent can be used and will remove the active ingredient from
the skin. Once this is done, pat dry with a cloth towel. DO NOT RUB.
- A wet towel or ice packs may be used on the affected areas to reduce inflammation.
- Remove contact lenses before flushing the eyes with water, and then thoroughly clean and
soak the lenses with appropriate cleaning solutions.
- All effects should dissipate within 45 minutes without decontamination, and sooner with
fresh air and water. Watch symptoms. If the individual has symptoms of physical distress,
e.g., chest pains, cold sweat, or shallow breathing, seek medical treatment immediately.
Vehicle Decontamination
- OC is biodegradable and requires minimal washing for dissipation.
- With normal ventilation (opening doors/windows) dissipation will rapidly occur.
